Camp Greenbrier operates a .22 caliber rifle range with eight firing positions shooting at 50 feet. Boys shoot for NRA qualifications ranging from Pro Marksman to Distinguished Expert. They shoot from prone, sitting, kneeling, and standing positions.
Safety is the top priority on the Range. During rifle class, campers learn all of the parts of the rifle, and all of the range commands and rules. For each shooting position, there are two people involved: one is the shooter, and the other is the coach. The coach is responsible for making sure the shooter obeys all of the range rules. The best riflemen in camp participate on the Rifle Team. One of the highlights of the program is the match with the excellent girls’ team from neighboring Camp Alleghany.
